While most of the recent researches have been focused on green tea, tea was used as a medical beverage in China more than 5000 years ago.  It was first discovered by Shen Nong, the first Chinese doctor in history.  In a medicine book "Shen Nong Ben Chao" stated that "Shen Nong tasted hundreds of herbs, he encountered 72 poisons daily, he used tea as antidote."

As the different types of tea are processed differently, each contains some common and unique health benefits.
